2012 Property Tax Reassessment in Allegheny County

According to the most recent Orders of Court of the Hon. R.Stanton Wettick of the Court of Common Pleas, the Allegheny County property reassessments WILL CONTINUE, despite County Executive Rich Fitzgerald’s earlier declaration that the reassessments are, “null and void.”

The Judge’s Order extended the implementation of the 2012 reassessment numbers until 2013.  This means that the County will be using 2002 assessed values for 2012 determinations, and the new 2012 values for 2013.  Therefore, the new assessment values will not impact your taxes until 2013.  However, property owners have the opportunity to challenge these reassessment values THIS YEAR.

If you own residential or commercial property within the City of Pittsburgh school district, you currently have until April 2, 2012 to file an appeal to challenge your reassessment value.  Otherwise you will be required to pay taxes on it next year!

Surrounding boroughs and municipalities within Allegheny County should receive new 2012 reassessments by the end of February 2012, and new 2012 deadlines following the assessments.
