Pittsburgh, PA - Business Law - Arbitration Services
Arbitration is a legal resolution process in which parties to a dispute refer it to one or more persons, called arbitrators, by whose decision they agree to be bound. It is a form of alternative dispute resolution, or ADR, meaning it is a method of resolving disputes outside of the courts. It is often provided for in contracts in which one party is a business.
Very often, an agreement will provide for binding arbitration through the American Association of Arbitration or some other arbitration organization. The dispute will be subject to the rules prescribed by the organization. These rules often include limited discovery, liberal rules of evidence, and a final, non-appealable decision.
It is just as important to be represented by capable legal counsel in arbitration as in standard litigation, and the stakes of a single arbitration proceeding can be even higher than a particular court appearance. If you are facing arbitration, or wish to seek out counsel regarding establishing arbitration procedures for your business interests, contact Allegheny Attorneys at (412) 963-8495.
Note: Arbitration can also arise by statute through litigation. This is not the same as contractual arbitration. For more information about statutory arbitration, please see the Business Litigation.
